Why do we dedicate one day a year to our loved one? Our mother’s? Our Father’s – shouldn’t we think about them always?

Valentine’s Day 2009 – 14th February

Mother’s Day 2009 (UK) – 22nd March

Mother’s Day 2009 (USA) – 10th May

Father’s Day 2009 (Australia) – 6th September

Father’s Day 2009 (UK) – 21st June

I’ve always wondered why for only one day out of our year we celebrate our loved ones…Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Aren’t we supposed to appreciate them everyday? Love them always and not just for one day out of the year?

It really irritates me that people think that if you show someone some affection, respect and love on one particular day of the whole year that you can forget about how you treat them the rest of the year. (If you do love, look after and respect your mum, dad or partner every other day of the year, then please ignore my ranting!) I’m one of those guilty people who doesn’t treat my parents or other people in my life the way they deserve to be treated every single day of the year and I am pretty sure that I am not the only one who behaves in this fashion!

What do you all think? Should we continue to celebrate
Mother's Day, Father's Day and Valentine's Day as a tradition
or should we live up to the fact that we’re not perfect and
sucking up to your loved one on these special days only
makes you feel more guilty than one needs to!?

I’ll go first… I believe you should tell the people that you love the most that you love them all the time, you could buy them sweet gifts and cards at times throughout the year and if you have to make use of these holiday ‘days’ then just use them to enhance what you already do throughout the year!
